I'm David Kavaler.
A portrait photographer based in Berlin, Germany.
As a fan of people watching, once I had a camera in my hands I quickly discovered my passion for photographing faces. Today, I've honed an eclectic and offbeat aesthetic, and my relaxed approach to shooting is a direct reflection of my laid-back approach to life. Whether on assignment or shooting personal work, I tend towards creating bold & vibrant images that capture the essence of human personality, often revealing the power of a simply expressed emotion within a heightened aesthetic environment.
On set, I foster an environment that makes room for those serendipitous moments —the ones that always make the best shots— to reveal themselves naturally. I believe that the mark of a great photographer is in mastering the rules of the craft and then bending them to your creative will.
I like my art unrefined, raw and real. And I always keep the main thing, the main thing. In the words of Chuck Close: Inspiration is for amateurs — the rest of us just show up and get to work.
